Indeed, welcome to the area Jacob. As others know, I’m not super active on this list, but I couldn’t resist a shout out to the ComutaCar! I have a 1975 CitiCar in my garage right now. It’s in the original configuration of lead acid batteries and chunky controller that works as well as it ever did new (set expectations low!). From what I understand, the Th!nk is pretty fun as well!

Only CitiCar drivability issue right now other than a Willamette Valley winter is a brake fluid leak on the right front caliper. I’ve even got the parts to fix it - but not the time and am considering if and how to part with the car. It’s been in the family since 1993, is a significant part of US automotive history and is just too cute/ugly for me to easily part with. I’m likely to keep it until I can find a loving home for it, ideally where I can visit it periodically (can you tell I got too attached?). I’m open to ideas from anyone! Cheers,
Brandon

Hey Jacob, nice to have you and your fun projects in the area!

I'm an EE major finishing up my time at LBCC rn.

Adding CHAdeMO to a Th!nk sounds awesome, and I'd like to hear about how you got it back on the road after it had water damage. I've worked on a number of Th!nks before and I know they are a real pain to do anything to. Good luck with it and hmu if you need any tools, I'm well equipped and don't mind sharing/lending.

Send some pics of the progress!

Hi All, I'm new around here so I thought I might introduce myself and my EV.

I'm an electrical and computer engineering student at OSU who recently moved to the area. My EV is a 2011 Think City (factory produced for those not familiar) that was resurrected after someone let water get into the main controller.

I previously had another Think and a 1980 ComutaCar that I semi-restored. I started that project with the ambitious goal of building it a pack from salvaged 18650 cells, got enough to make it move at about 3MPH down a completely flat road, and then switched to salvage 1st-gen Leaf cells, which were enough to get it to around 35MPH tops and maybe 5 miles of range. (Should have been more, but those Leaf cells do not handle lots of current well. I'd use Volt or Tesla modules if I did it again.)

My current project is adding CHAdeMO fast-charging to my Think. That's progressing well and I believe I'm nearing a successful first charge, but it's also the largest project I've attempted so there are plenty of little bugs to find. I've been documenting progress on an Instagram blog, https://www.instagram.com/th1nkagain/

It's been neat moving to this area and seeing so many more EVs than where I used to live!
Best, Jacob Field
