Concerning subject announcement below I will be happy to organize National Drive Electric Week events in this area if there are enough EV owners who are interested in participating. Our 8 Leaf, 1 Focus Electric showing in the 3-mile Monmouth to Independence July Fourth Parade this year was a blast. We informed many about the fun and importance of driving electric and sowed some seeds that may lead to increased ownership. NDEW is another important opportunity to do this.

Please send your ideas for NDEW events. Here are some candidates: Stage an EV parade, make presentations about the advantages of EVs at local service clubs, provide demonstration drives, conduct a road rally to some appropriate destination and conduct teach-ins at that destination on the benefits of driving electric, followed by demonstration drives. I prepared and gave a Power Point Presentation on the advantages of EVs to a local Rotary Club early this month. I would be glad to provide it as a basis for others to tailor and present to service clubs, student groups and other organizations . Program chairpersons are anxious to schedule presentation that will interest members.

A rally with many different kinds of EVs would demonstrate that driving electric is not a "one-pony show". My older son may be here then with his Tesla and we should be able to get local Tesla owners to participate. It would be good to have EVs from all of the manufacturers and those who have converted ICEVs to EVs.

While our younger son was here this month we made a test run with our new 2013 Leaf SV to check out its B Mode (supplementary) regenerative braking system. This run was from our home at elevation 570' down to 260' and up to the Mary's Peak parking lot (3800') and back to home, 54 miles round trip. It is interesting that we got to the parking lot with 50% charge remaining, according to the 2013s charge meter. A half hour later we descended the mountain in cruise control, Eco Mode and B Mode. We did not touch the brake pedal until we reached the stop sign at Highway 34. We disengaged the cruise control and let the B Mode arrest all but the last bit of forward motion. Use of the friction brakes at the stop was minimal. We arrived home also with 50% charge, indicating that nearly all of our potential energy at the parking lot was converted on the way down to electricity. This regenerative braking appeared to compensate for all energy loss during the return leg, This assumes that the charge meter provides accurate reading.

Conclusion: B Mode is a very effective range extender for multi-elevation driving, such as the large amount that those who live in the hills surrounding Corvallis do during frequent trips to downtown Corvallis. B Mode is also an important range extender for those who commute along routes that have substantial changes in elevation. A rally that demonstrates this and other important EV features could be turned into a major media event, that receives prominent coverage by the G-T which is disposed to publishing interesting stories about the lives of Corvallis residents, frequently on the front page.

Please respond aye or nay. If aye please indicate the times during NDE Week (September 15 to 21) that are best for you to participate.

Cheers for all EV owners,

Walt

Dear Elizabeth,
Electric cars -- see what all the fuss is about.

Find an event near you to be part of the fourth annual National Drive Electric Week, September 15-21.

RSVP Today!
RSVP!
A quarter million.

That's how many electric vehicles (EVs) will be on the road in the U.S. when the 4th annual National Drive Electric Week kicks off on September 15. If you've been watching the fast acceleration in EV sales over the past few years, you don't need me to tell you that we're on the cusp of an exciting vehicle revolution!

There are so many electric vehicles coming on the market now, and so many people interested in learning more about them, that we had to turn National Plug In Day into National Drive Electric Week -- you just can't fit all these exciting events into a single day!

Join us September 15-21 in more than 115 cities in 35 states for the annual event designed to showcase the speed, convenience, clean-air benefits and fuel cost-savings of electric vehicles through ride-and-drives and other great activities. There's an event near you, so don't miss out!

Have you been hearing about all the new electric vehicle options and want to ride in one yourself to see what all the buzz is about? National Drive Electric Week is your chance to do just that, and to ask current EV owners any questions you have about driving or owning an EV.

Each celebration event will be led by local EV drivers and advocates and will include some combination of EV parades, test rides, press conferences, award ceremonies, informational booths, and more . At some events, people can even learn about options to charge plug-in cars with solar power!

Whether you want to see a Tesla up close and personal, or take a ride in a Chevy Volt, you won't want to miss out on National Drive Electric Week. There's an event near you, so sign up today to let us know you'll be there!

This national celebration -- which has quadrupled in size since its 2011 launch -- is the place to be for EV enthusiasts and people interested in making the switch to greener driving. Cities all over the country will offer activities organized nationally by the Sierra Club, Plug In America and the Electric Auto Association -- as well as other groups at the local level. Don't miss out!

Thanks for all you do for the environment,

Gina Coplon-Newfield

P.S. Whether or not you can make it to a National Drive Electric Week event, be sure to check out our interactive EV Guide . You can type in your zip code and see a ton of information on EV comparisons in your area, including consumer incentives, fuel cost savings, environmental impacts, and even EVs for sale nearby.
