<i><b>Works on Paper </b></i>presents two interconnected
activities by Mexico City / Zürich-based composer <b>Manfred
Werder</b>, an outdoor dérive and an indoor performance.<br>
<br>
To participate in the dérive, arrive at Passages Bookshop between
1:45 and 2:00 pm. There will be a break between the dérive and the
evening performance.<br>

Werder’s Portland activities continue the artist's practice of
inscription, which includes ongoing writing projects <i>20160</i>
(three 22 meter long scrolls), <i>20170</i> (a stack of found
paper), <i>20190</i> (historic postcards), and <i>[ the music of
history ]</i> — described as "the inscription of the earth, that
is, both the earth that inscribes and the earth that is
inscribed."<br>

through the abundance in which he traces all possible enunciation
regarding the world. His recent work <i>[ the music of history ]</i>
consists of inscription of found materials through typewriters and
of public space through dérive. Earlier works include <i>stück
1998</i>, a 4,000-page score whose nonrecurring and intermittent
performative realization has been ongoing since December 1997. He
lives in situ.<br>

that use concepts, characteristics, and histories of the book, and
entanglements with text, as a frame for exploratory practice
across the arts. This season's series, <i><b>Experiments in
Language and Sound</b></i>, which highlights artists working
at the intersection of experimental music and poetry, has been
organized by David Abel and Robert Blatt. For more information,
