Please join us as we celebrate the publication of two new books of
poetry comics: */
/*
*/Less Desolate /by Shin Yu Pai & Justin Rueff
&*
*/Don't Chase Will Run/ by Seann Patrick McCollum*
*Shin Yu Pai* is currently Civic Poet of the City of Seattle. She is the
author of thirteen books, including most recently /No Neutral /(Empty
Bowl, 2023) and /Less Desolate/ (Blue Cactus Press, 2023). In 2021,
Entre Rios Books published/ENSO/, a twenty-year survey of her work
across creative disciplines, including book arts, photography, film,
installation, and performance. She is the creator and host of the
podcast /Ten Thousand Things/, which she produces for KUOW, Seattle's
NPR affiliate station.
*Seann McCollum* is an artist lurking on the fringes of the Portland
literary scene. That shadowy figure who sits in the back doodling while
everyone schmoozes. A scavenger waiting for the other beasts to finish
gorging so he can feast on the scraps. He has self-published thirty
books of poetry, prose, and drawings.

*Eckhard Froeschlin* is a German book artist, printmaker, and painter,
proprietor of *Editions Schwarze Seite*, and sometimes a somehow
fanatical teacher.
Based on the sister-city relationship between Wuppertal, Germany, and
Matagalpa, Nicaragua, Eckhard founded the *Matagalpa Artist' Printshop
Project* in 1998, following a request by two visiting artists from
Matagalpa.
A first workshop proved that there was a stunning reservoir of talent,
and the will to continue as a group named *TallerContil*. From workshop
to workshop, from simple woodcuts to etching, from single prints to book
art, the project developed into a unique opportunity in Nicaragua,
attracting professional artists from bigger cities. Book art proved to
be essential in this poor country, where one person out of every ten
writes poems, and would be glad to see them printed.
Due to the more recent political climate, part of the group has had to
emigrate, and an in-person workshop seems impossible at this time.
However, the artists continue making prints — for an annual fine print
calendar, for — and especially artist's books in growing intensity,
communicating with their German partner via the internet.
Eckhard will show a selection of (small, suitcase-size) prints and more
than twenty artist's books from Matagalpa, and will accompany some
remarks with a brief slideshow.
