Hey all,
Long-time lurker in this group - I haven't made it to one of the meetups
yet, even. :(
I'm looking at buying a new (to me - will be used :) ) car, and I want
to get an all electric. This would be our first electric. I know... a
bit late to capitalize on all the rebates/credits. Oh well.
Are there any tips for buying an EV today? What are the remaining (if
any) credits?
Are there general rules of thumb for buying older EVs? There seems to
be a number of cars in the 2013-2016 range, and then the 2020-2024
range. The older ones seem to have ranges in the 50-100 MPC range;
newer ones are often in the ~200 range. Is that because of battery
technology changes? Simple design changes because they put bigger
batteries in there? Is the calendar age of the battery much of a
consideration, or is it more about the # of charges and type of charging?
I'm not much experienced in buying a car - we tend to own our cars until
the wheels fall off, so have only purchased a few - last one was 16
years ago. What should I know about buying an EV from a dealer vs.
private party?
Anybody want to discuss specific models? (Maybe we don't want to flood
this list with a bunch of chatter about certain ones... or maybe we do.
:) )
I have seen:
Jaguar I-Pace 2020: ~$20K (looks nice... has some worrisome
issues, maybe)
VW ID.4 2021: ~ $18k
VW ID.4 2023: ~ $20K
(We have driven an ID.4 before and liked it.)
etc...
Yes, I could (maybe) eventually figure out/answer some of these on my
own, and I will continue working at that. But I'd like to tap directly
into the experience of others - make you all into a sort of AI chatbot. :)
Thanks,
